CARTOON FUN FACTS: ACCESORIES

Your one stop MASK cartoon resource for cool vehicle add-ons by David Goellnitz.

Manta's Saw Blade
Manta's saw blades appeared in multiple episodes, Manta was shown to have had massive saw blades that came out of the front of the vehicle.
Interestingly enough, this feature was not on the toys and was original to the show, even into the Racing Series.

Switchblade Remote Control
The Switchblade remote control first appeared in the first episode of the cartoon, "The Deathstone", this remote allowed for Switchblade to be effectively controlled by Cliff Dagger in order to steal a piece of a meteor.
Apparently, this became a regular feature of Switchblade, appearing in the episodes "The Star Chariot" and "Magma Mole" allowing for Miles Mayhem to summon Switchblade to him.
The first two appearances have the remote being a small box, with it's later appearance showing a larger box, with two control levers, and an extendable antenna.

Rhino Self Changing Tire
In the cartoon episode "The Gate of Darkness", Rhino had driven over a bed of spikes, puncturing its tire and flipping into a bed of hot coals.
After using Lifter to get Rhino back on its wheels, the tire was automatically repaired. The bare wheel hub (it appears the remains of the old tire melted or came off maybe, its unclear), back into Rhino, emerging moments later with a new tire.
Interestingly, in the episode "Secret of the Stones", when Rhino's front wheel was shot out by Sly Rax, this was not employed.
During the Racing series, Razorback, Goliath, and Bulldog when they had punctured tires, all needed to be manually changed, suggesting this was possibly a late upgrade to Rhino.
What do you think about this technology?

Rhino's Winch
Appearing in the episodes the "Oz Effect" and "Secret of the Stones", the winch is an interesting bit of cartoon continuity.
The winch is a portable winch that could be attached to the back of Rhino. It appears to be fairly lightweight and is used as a tow cable.
It was used in the episode "The Oz Effect" to save Gator and Firecracker from a quicksand trap, and again in the episode "Secret of the Stones" to lift a stone slab.
The winch does appear to be possibly under powered struggling with pulling out Firecracker and the Stone slab.
It would likely be possible for custom piece be made for a Rhino toy, which would be a cool addition.

Stinger Scorpion Armor
As see in the episode "The Chinese Scorpion" , as an added armor for Stinger, the scorpion gave Stinger extra protection, large claws, with the tail being a powerful laser cannon. Stinger was also able shoot a laser blast from the vehicles grill.
VENOM uses the Scorpion to capture Dr Choi, an archeologist in order to force him to find a treasure hidden in the Great Wall of China.
Matt and Bruce follow the tracks of the Scorpion and encounter it in the Great Wall. In the ensuing battle, Thunderhawk is forced down by the Scorpion and buried in the wall.
Matt and Bruce survive the encounter, and Matt is able to destroy the Scorpion with Rhino before Bruno can get Stinger into the armor.

A Bird? A Plane? A Windmill? A Switchblade?
As seen in the episode "In Dutch" to play Don Quixote, we look at the Windmill disguise for Switchblade.
Spotted flying by T-Bob, Miles Mayhem used the disguised Switchblade to hide among real Windmills.
When seen taking off again by Scott and T-Bob, Thunderhawk takes to the skies after it
Thunderhawk is forced down as the Windmill is revealed to be Switchblade as it sheds it's disguise.
The rotors of Switchblade, as well as two extra fake blades become the sail of the Windmill.
A large round metal section covers the lower part of the base of the Windmill.
Being as the subject of transforming Windmills seldom comes up, in the anime series G Gundam, a Gundam does transform into a Windmill and hides out for a good portion of the series proving Windmills are apparently good disguises.
What do you think? Do you like this disguise? Do you want a toy of this one?

Jackhammer's Trailor
In the cartoon the trailer appeared in the episode "The Currency Conspiracy".
The trailer appears to be an open topped trailer that Sly Rax (yes, Sly Rax) in order to transport equipment back to the VENOM base.
After a skiing mishap, Scott and T-Bob fell into the trailer and were inadvertently transported back to the VENOM base.
The trailer appears to have been removed from Jackhammer prior to MASK arriving.
The trailer is black and seems to have the same pipe present on Jackhammer.
In the UK Comics, a similar trailer is used in the story The Growth Ray, where it used to transport the title weapon.

The Horn of Plenty
Appearing in the episode "The Gate of Darkness", The Horn of Plenty was a new tractor, which was developed by Matt Trakker.
According to Matt Trakker, this new tractor could tell soil composition and seed distribution at the touch of a button.
This would allow for a good crop every year and eliminate any guess work in farming. As it would help feed many people, Matt Trakker named this large tractor The Horn of Plenty.
The Horn of Plenty appears to a large red tractor, with equipment that appears to be for plowing and what looks to be for seed spreading.
In India, Matt operated the tractor, and demonstrated the tractor along with Bruce Sato to a Mr. Subas, he expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Indian people.
The demonstration was cut short by Alex, Scott and T-Bob bringing news of the theft of a cobra. Mr. Subas was asked to help by Matt Trakker, helping with the early part of the investigation.
There unfortunately was no farming vehicles made into M.A.S.K vehicles.
Would you want to see farming vehicles in M.A.S.K.?

VENOM's Manta Seed Disperser and Ultra Beam Generator
Appearing in the episode "Plant Show", VENOM developed a giant fast growing vine and used these plants to terrorize the city of Los Angeles.
The vines were a hybrid plants developed from two species found only in Brazil.
VENOM spread the seeds with a special seed throwing device mounted on the hood of Manta. Switchblade would follow behind with the Ultra Beam Generator, which use a special intensified ultraviolet beam in order to trigger rapid growth in the plants.
Manta also appears to have been outfitted with large knife like blades that it used to escape.
Despite collecting a sample of the beam, M.A.S.K. had little they could do to prevent the beam from creating more vines.
The Ultra Beam Generator proved to be too effective, when Manta accidentally flew into the beam, causing all the stored seeds to grow.
The Ultra Beam Generator was then destroyed by a laser blast from Thunderhawk.
M.A.S.K. learned that vines had a weakness to cold temperatures, bringing an end to this VENOM scheme.
What did you think of this plan?

VENOM's Gravity Weapon
Appearing in the episode "A Matter of Gravity", this was a powerful weapon mounted on the nose of Switchblade that could generate a beam to increase the force if gravity.
The weapon proved to be effective, in that it destroyed a train engine (in order to steal large amounts of coal), creating diamond armor for Jackhammer and Manta, squishing T-Bob twice, destroying Firecracker and aiding in the robbery if the Philadelphia Mint.
The beam was even able to deflect laser fire. (I'm not sure how lasers are affected by gravity).
The beam was projected from a dish, with two diodes also protruding from Switchblade as part of the weapon.
The weapon is best know for destroying Firecracker, and leading into Hondo being given Hurricane. While Firecracker would quietly return as Buddie Hawks personal vehicle in later episodes, this was a major event.
The Gravity Weapon was destroyed when Gloria Baker used her Aura MASK to redirect the beam back at Switchblade, jamming the controls. Switchblade crashed as a result, and both the aircraft and the laser weapon were destroyed.
What did you think of this weapon?

Thunderhawk Disc Launcher
Appearing multiple episodes, including "Video VENOM", this was a large launcher on the underside of Thunderhawk that could launch a round pick like magnetic mine.
In the episode "Bad Vibrations", the launcher is used to launch magnetic disks that could act as rockets, which Matt uses to rescue Gator from falling off a cliff, which Matt was able to control from Thunderhawk remotely.
In the episode "Deadly Blue Slime", the launcher is seen again launching a bugging device on Switchblade.
In the episode "Dinosaur Boy", Thunderhawk is seen dropping a similar round magnetic device similar to the rocket disks, that acted in a similar manner to the prior mentioned disks, suggesting Thunderhawk could drop the disks without the launcher.
Sadly, this feature was not included on the toy. What did you think of this weapon?

M.A.S.K Watch
Today it's time for us to take a look at the staple of the M.A.S.K. call up scene, the M.A.S.K. watch.
I think most cartoon fans are familiar with this one. The M.A.S.K. Agents in most episodes would be summoned by a flashing MASK insignia on their watches. The agents would then drop what they were doing, often with numerous results.
The watches appear to be silver and red, with what appears to be a metal band.
The MASK Agents would also wear them with their uniforms.

M.A.S.K Briefcase Computer
This is one I think most fans are familiar with from the cartoon. This early lap top like computer was used to be when they were away from Boulder Hill or the Trakker Mansion computer.
The computer could set up a satellite link to the main MASK computer, be used to assemble the team, perform scans, make print outs on paper tape, be used for video communication, and once for a magic trick.
It appears that there might be multiple computers, as Alex and Ace both appear to have their own as well.
What do you think of the computer?

Switchblade's Skyhook
During events of the episode "Follow the Rainbow", this device was used under Switchblade to carry Jackhammer and Piranha.
The sky hook appears to be a structure that secures the vehicles with clamps.
After dropping the vehicles off, the hook disappears and is possibly retracted inside.
Rax and Dagger both rode inside Jackhammer during the flight.
This does solve a bit if the question of how VENOM transports their vehicles.
What do you think of the Sky Hook?

 MASK Watch
Today it's time for us to take a look at the staple of the M.A.S.K. call up scene, the M.A.S.K. watch.
I think most cartoon fans are familiar with this one. The M.A.S.K. Agents in most episodes would be summoned by a flashing MASK insignia on their watches. The agents would then drop what they were doing, often with numerous results.
The watches appear to be silver and red, with what appears to be a metal band.
The MASK Agents would also wear them with their uniforms.

 MASK Briefcase Computer
